Assessment and pedagogy are inextricably connected. Assessment of pupils’ attainment and progress should be directly linked to the curriculum followed by the school.

Report of the Commission on Assessment Without Levels, Sept 2015

Assessment at Gorsey Bank can be separated broadly into two types: formative and summative.

Formative assessments are happening everyday to ensure your child has the most precise teaching possible. They are done through discussions with pupils, high level questioning, marking of pupils’ work, and regular, low-stakes testing to ensure learning is embedded and any gaps in learning area addressed as soon as possible.

In addition to this we administer termly summative assessments or tests, the results of which are analysed and discussed with senior leaders in Pupil Progress Review meetings. These processes are enhanced by a comprehensive academic handover as the pupils transition to each new year group, and termly Parents’ Evenings in which Class Teachers discuss pupils’ strengths and next steps in their learning.
