Welcome to Year 5

Welcome to Year 5

Our teaching team includes Miss Ratcliffe and Miss Brown (Class Teachers) Mr Turner (Associate Teacher) and Mrs Coker (Teaching Assistant). We will also be utilising the expertise of Miss Cheetham for our RE learning, Madame Danglidis for Languages and Mrs Savin for one PE session each week.

During Aspirations week, we will be working in groups across Year 5 and 6 to build a business. The children will work together in teams to develop their own idea. During Aspirations Week, we will be exploring many people who inspire us and others and will be reading ‘Little People, BIG DREAMS Steven Hawking’ to see how he has inspired so many people.

Our Spring Term theme is ‘Making Mischief’, inspired by a range of engaging texts that will be used across our school curriculum. Many of the texts we are using include stories full of playfulness, naughtiness and mischievousness!

  • ‘‘The Fib and Other Stories’ by George Layton

  • ‘Holes’ by Louis Sachar

  • ‘Awesome Egyptians’ by Terry Deary and Peter Hepplewhite

  • ‘The Incredible Ecosystems of Planet Earth’ by Rachel Ignotofsky

  • ‘Curiosity The Story of Mars Rover’ by Markus Motum

Important Information for Year 5:

  • This half term we will have PE on a Wednesday and Thursday for both classes but try to have your kit in school every day just in case.
  • Home Learning is set on a Wednesday and is due on the following Monday. The children will be given a slip outlining the task. Advice, guidance and helpful links will be given on the Home Learning slip but if you require additional information please contact Miss Ratcliffe or Miss Brown.
  • The children should also read their Reading, Library and Guided Reading books.
  • All children have been given TT Rockstars and Prodigy accounts (passwords can be found in their Home Learning books). We encourage the children to continue practising their maths skills to help build their speed and stamina in arithmetic.
