Welcome to Year 1
Welcome to Year 1 and the Autumn Term!
Our teaching team consists of Mrs van Spelde, Mrs Austin and Miss Hopkins (Class Teachers), Miss Tetley and Mrs Coates (Teaching Assistants) and Miss Bardsley (School Centered Initial Teacher Trainee)
Autumn Term: Belonging…
Our Autumn term theme is ‘Belonging’ where we will be looking at where we belong, overcoming challenges and learning the importance of kindness. Along the way we will be embracing new opportunities and challenging ourselves through our learning. We will be using a selection of Inspirational Texts as a way of engaging with our school curriculum, giving us fantastic opportunities to develop cross curricular links across all subject areas.
- We are timetabled to have PE every Tuesday morning and Friday afternoon but please have both your indoor and outdoor PE kit in school every day as plans may change and it is crucial that all children can take part.
- School reading books will be changed weekly during our guided reading sessions, we encourage children to change their reading books independently as and when it is needed. We also send our guided reading books home weekly so that the children can practise using their reading skills to read a familiar text that they have been taught in school. Please remember to have your Reading Record, Individual and Guided Reading books in your bag every day. We appreciate a brief comment in the Reading Record as this enables us to monitor how often a child is reading. Our library session is every Friday so please ensure the book is in your child’s bag so they are able to change it if needed.
- Home Learning is set on a Wednesday and is due on the following Monday. The children will be given a slip outlining the task. Advice and guidance will be given on the Home Learning slip but if you require additional information please speak with one of the Year 1 team on the door. Spellings are given out at the start of each half-term and five spellings are tested every Wednesday. Please practise these with your child at home.
There will be lots of exciting learning going on in Year 1 this term, please follow us on Twitter (@GorseyY1) to keep up to date with all our adventures and share your child’s learning journey!
