Welcome to Year 6!
Mr Johnson, Miss Ratcliffe and Mrs Thompson are the Year 6 Class Teachers and we are also taught by Mrs Savin and Mrs Marsden one morning a week. Miss Arthington also works with us in her role as Associate Teacher.
Our theme for the Autumn Term is ‘Herosism’ and our learning will be centered around exploring this idea through different texts.
Our Class Bookshelf includes ‘The Good Thieves’ by Katherine Rundell and ‘Clockwork’ by Phillip Pullman, which we will be reading as our Class Novels across the term. We will also be using ‘The Proudest Blue’ by Ibtihaj Muhammad, ‘Mr William Shakespeare’s Plays’ by Marcia Williams and ‘I Am Not A Label’ by Cerrie Burnell.
Important Information for Year 6:
- This term we will have PE on a Wednesday and Thursday, please come to school dressed in your kit on these days.
- Home Learning is set on a Wednesday, due for the following Monday. You will be given two pieces each week, which will consist of one Maths task (usually Arithmetic) and one English task (usually linked to Grammar or Reading Comprehension skills).
- A list of spellings will be sent home to learn at the start of each half term. This contains the test date for each week’s five specific spellings.
We will be using a range of writing, images, practical activities and technology to present our learning throughout the Autumn Term – keep an eye on our Twitter page (@GorseyY6) for updates along the way!
