Welcome to Year 6
Welcome to Year 6!
Mr Johnson and Mrs Thompson are the Year 6 Class Teachers, and Mr Maguire (Head of School) and Mr Thompson (Deputy Head of School) are also part of the teaching team for English and Maths sessions. Other adults that help us are Mrs Savin, Mrs Coker, Mrs Brickhill and Ms Aitken.
Our theme for the Spring Term is ‘Through the Storm’ and our learning will be centered around exploring this idea through different texts and topics such as exploring World War 1 through our History and English learning. Our Spring Term Bookshelf includes ‘Private Peaceful’ by Michael Morpurgo and ‘War is Over’ by David Almond, which we will be reading as our Class Novels across the term. We will also be using the picture books ‘The Day War Came’ by Nicola Davies and ‘Archie’s War: My Scrapbook of The First World War’ by Marcia Williams. The last book on our bookshelf is ‘Suffragette: The Battle for Equality’ by David Roberts, who in his book follows the trajectory of the movement in the UK as well as visiting some key figures and moments around the world.
Important Information for Year 6:
- This term we will have PE on a Monday (indoor) and a Wednesday (outdoor) but try to have your kit in school every day just in case.
- Home Learning is set on a Wednesday, due for the following Monday. You will continue to be given a Maths task each week, along with an English task (usually linked to Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation and Reading Comprehension skills).
- A list of spellings will be sent home to learn at the start of each half term. This contains the test date for each week’s five specific spellings.
We will be using a range of writing, images, practical activities and technology to present our learning throughout the Autumn Term – keep an eye on our Twitter page (@GorseyY6) for updates along the way!
