It has been an outstanding year for Gorsey Bank (GB) in every sense of the word!

We’ve achieved so much, both academically and personally, and have had a lot of fun along the way!

As we say goodbye for now, we would like to share some of the highlights from the Summer Term with you.

Year 3 at Chester Zoo

Year 3 had a fantastic start to the Summer Term when they spent the day at Chester Zoo!

During their visit, they saw a lot of animals and took part in a workshop about nutrition and the digestive system.

They had so much fun seeing how many of their favourite animals they could spot!

Thanks to our parent helpers for supporting the trip!

Year 1 go to Jodrell Bank

In May, Year 1 had a fabulous trip to Jodrell Bank.

They were amazed by the size of the Lovell Telescope and had lots of fun exploring all the different exhibitions.

Pupils enjoyed learning about the story of Jodrell Bank, telescopes, satellites and the solar system itself!

A particular highlight was spotting constellations and whizzing through the Milky Way with a planetarium show in the Space Dome!

Well done to all the children for being amazing ambassadors for our school and thank you to the parents who came along to support us.

Year 2 get crafty at Macclesfield Sill Museum

Year 2 had an excellent visit to Macclesfield Sill Museum in May.

They found out that Victorians used to make rag rugs to keep their feet warm during the winter.

Pupils had a go at making their own rag rugs afterwards!

Year 3 enjoy their first residential to Castleton

In May, Year 3 went to Castleton for their first ever residential trip.

Pupils got stuck in with all sorts of activities on the first day – from making mini shelters and orienteering to designing tote bags and going on scavenger hunts!

They enjoyed singing songs and telling jokes around the fire pit in the evening.

On the second day, they embarked on the Cave Dale walk and had great fun exploring caves on the way up!

A big well done to all of Year 3 for doing so well, and thank you to the staff who made this trip possible!

Year 4 are published authors!

Our very talented Year 4 pupils are soon to be published writers after entering a competition run by Young Writers.

Their work will appear in the upcoming book ‘Monster Poetry – Creature Features’.

A letter from the editor said “having all your pupils’ work chosen is something to be proud of, it doesn’t happen every day!”

The book is due to be published later this year and we will look out for it with great anticipation and even more pride in the creative efforts of our amazing children!

Fun at the Hay Festival

In June, we enjoyed a fantastic day trip to Wales for the Hay Festival.

Pupils had a fantastic time attending talks from the likes of Bear Grylls and even met some of their favourite authors!

A fabulous Sports Day

It was a fortuitously glorious day for this year’s Sports Day as pupils took to the fields to try and find glory for their Houses.

Everyone was determined and enthusiastic, and it was great to many of our parents and carers competing in the parents’ race (some of you have clearly been training for weeks!)

Well done to Fortius who were our winners!

Many thanks to all who organised the day and to everyone who came along to support, especially those who joined in!

Arts Week – what a treat!

The first week back after half term we enjoyed a fabulous Arts Week.

Inspired by the work of Wayne Thiebaud, pupils in every year group got creative.

Pupils in Years 1-2 created some delicious looking desserts!

Experimenting with different mediums, they produced observational artwork of ice cream, cupcakes, donuts, and many tasty treats!

Year 4 painted some fabulous donuts that look good enough to eat!

They also tried willow weaving, wet felting, and learned how to make paper using recycled paper pulp.

Year 5 and 6 were busy with wet felting and willow weaving.

Pupils assured us the treats tasted as good as they looked!

Gorsey play with the Hallé

It is always a pleasure to see our pupils perform, and to see them live at the Bridgewater Hall is certainly one of the highlights of the year!

Every year, pupils in Year 3-5 perform alongside the Hallé Orchestra on ukulele, drums and brass.

After their hard work in professional tuition sessions all year, it was enchanting to see the children play with such confidence alongside the Hallé.

They were amazing in both performance and behaviour, and made us tremendously proud!

A ‘roaring’ end to a brilliant year of author visits!

As our final visiting author of the year, Jenny Mclachlan provided some fierce and mythical inspiration for our pupils.

Based on her best-selling series ‘Land of Roar’, Jenny did sessions across the school mapping out magical worlds, and performed part on stage with pupils!

Gorsey Bank was visited by author Jenny Mclachlan.

She is our third guest author of the year after amazing visits from poet Matt Goodfellow and Ross Montgomery and the team are already busy planning potential visitors for next year.

Harvest time!

After much planning and months of hard work, we harvested our first very yummy produce from our school garden in June!

Pupils from our Department for Environment, along with some fantastic volunteers, planted the seeds earlier in the year and spent many of their playtimes watering and maintaining the garden.

Gorsey Bank pupils pitched together to plant seeds and then to harvest them later in the year.

When it was time to harvest, Year 1 helped gather all of the delicious fruits and vegetables to share with our school kitchen so we could enjoy them in the salad bars!

The Department for the Environment have been working their socks off on this project all year and have achieved Levels 1 & 2 of the RHS School Gardening Awards.

A huge thank you to our PTA and to all the pupils and staff who helped along the way!

CAFT Visits

In June we enjoyed two separate visits to the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust (CAFT).

As our chosen charity, we’ve been working with CAFT throughout the year and had various fundraising events to support them.

The Treasury went for their annual visit to see how our fundraising money is being spent and the next day our choir performed at ‘CAFTfest’ to some very captive audiences!

Thank you to everyone who has donated to CAFT, the generosity of our community has really made a difference to the children they support.

Saying Goodbye to Year 6

A magical production
We could not be prouder of our marvellous Year 6s after the amazing performances of Aladdin at the end of June.

It was a colossal team effort that resulted in a great production, thank you Year 6 for your dedication and to everyone who supported them!

A Dazzling Disco
The Leavers’ Disco was a dazzling success that marked the end of an era for Year 6.

It was an evening full of fun as pupils jumped around the hall and showed off their best dance moves.

What better way to celebrate than a whole year singing their hearts out to Sweet Caroline?

A final Gorsey Residential
Year 6 had a blast on their final Gorsey Residential earlier this month in Conwy.

While there, they had all kinds of adventures from raft building and kayaking to rock climbing, high ropes and leaps of faith!

The trip was thoroughly enjoyed by pupils and staff, we’re sure the memories will last a lifetime!

It has been a pleasure to work with this year group over the years and see them develop into the fantastic young people they are.

We wish you all the best of luck in your new schools!

Post-Ofsted Fun Day!

We were beyond thrilled to receive an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted report in June.

We’re incredibly proud of everything that has been achieved by the staff and children here and with the invaluable support of all our parents and carers.

To celebrate, we had a Fun Day in school last Thursday.

Gorsey Bank pupils enjoy playing on inflatables for their post OFSTED fun day.

The children were delighted when they discovered an ice cream van arriving at our gates and some giant inflatables popping up on the field!

The fun day was a lovely celebration to end the year, thank you so much to our PTA for making it possible!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the whole Gorsey Bank community for making this academic year the success it has been.

Thank you to the parents, carers and families who have come and supported us at the many events we’ve had, both internal and external.

Thank you to all of our teaching and support staff for your endless passion and commitment, going above and beyond to do whatever it takes.

And finally, thank you to our amazing pupils for doing your best each and every day, it is phenomenal to see how much you have achieved in the past 12 months.

From all of us at Gorsey Bank, we would like to wish you and your families a wonderful summer!
