Welcome to Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

Summer Term – ‘Curiosity’

Our Summer term theme is ‘Curiosity’. We will be discussing what curiosity means and how it can spark our imagination. We will use our curiosity to learn about the world around us, as well as discovering different worlds through exploring our bookshelf texts, asking questions and being creative. Our Summer Bookshelf is full of high-quality texts that share the theme of curiosity through the way that characters think, act and dream. We will use these stories to find out more about our theme and challenge ourselves to be more curious, think big and dream bigger!

Our bookshelf includes:

  • Beegu by Alexis Deacon
  • The Extraordinary Gardener by Sam Broughton
  • Just Because by Mac Barnett
  • Little Red Reading Hood by Lucy Rowland
  • Grandad’s Camper by Harry Woodgate

Important Information

  • PE will take place on a Tuesday and Friday, but please have your PE kit in school every day as plans may change and it is crucial that all children can take part.
  • Please read with your child every day to develop their reading skills and nurture their love of reading.
  • Shared Reading books will be changed on a Thursday, linked to your child’s current phonics level.

  • Home Learning is set on a Wednesday and is due in the following Monday. This alternates between reading comprehension questions in the Home Learning books and maths questions which will be set online on Math Shed.
