Welcome to Year 5

Welcome to Year 5

Summer Term – ‘Identity’

Our Summer Term theme is ‘Identity’, inspired by a range of engaging texts that will be used across our school curriculum. The texts that we are using give strong links to identity and self and prepare the children to be secure in their own identities in preparation for their transition to Year 6!

Our Summer Bookshelf: –

  • Wonder by R J Palacio
  • Hortense and the Shadow by Natalie O’Hara & Lauren O’Hara
  • The Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Q. Rauf
  • A Kid in my Class by Rachel Rooney
  • The Arrival by Shaun Tan

Important Information for Year 5:

  • Home Learning is set on a Wednesday and is due on the following Monday. The children will be given a reading task in their home learning book and maths home learning on Math Shed.
  • The children should also read their reading books from the Year 5 library as well as the school library.
  • The children should be reading every night for at least 10 minutes. This should be recorded in their Reading Records and signed by a parent. Reading Records will be check on a Wednesday.
  • All children have a Spelling Shed account to practise their weekly spellings. Passwords can be found in their home learning books.
